Dave and Willie Hauser, proprietors of Daystar Window Distributors of Farmingdale, New York always were industrious. Growing up in Baldwin, LI, the Hauser boys began their first business venture as pre-teens, mowing lawns throughout their neighborhood. As word of their quality workmanship and fair price spread among the community, so did the request for their services. Soon, the young men were responsible for the cutting of over 150 lawns per week, a task accomplished by the purchase of two trucks, various equipment, and by subcontracting the work to ten others within their network of friends.
What started as a source for pocket change soon grew into the opening of a wholesale garden center in Baldwin, then the purchase of an existing garden center in a better location in nearby Amityville, on well traveled Route 110. By that time Twin Landscaping matured into Twins Nursery, the 21 year old brothers were employing a crew of thirty and were grossing nearly one million dollars per year. From a start in landscape construction, notably decks, the brothers quickly expanded into a company called Daystar Contracting.
The company increased its reputation daily as quality contractors and installers of kitchens, bathrooms, decks, skylights, and windows. Soon discovering that the window business was the most rewarding of the tasks at hand, Daystar Contracting evolved into a replacement window specialty company. Now the challenge was to get more leads in that field. The brothers' next example of entrepreneurship was soon realized when they convinced one of the Island's major hardware companies, Albert Brothers of Bellmore, to display some windows within their hardware store and recommend, naturally,
Daystar to do the installations. Compensated by commission,
Albert Brothers did well as did the Hauser’s.
On the strength of both companies' quality reputations, in the mid 1980s, Daystar Windows added an additional thirty hardware stores. Both Hauser’s attended Hofstra University to expand their skills and better manage their growing business. Today, Dave covers more of the business side of the company, handling much of the book keeping and marketing, while Willie manages all service related issues.
The staff at Daystar is constantly demonstrating the benefits of their products to homeowners brought to the Daystar’s showroom by re-modelers and builders. The showroom staff, selling to the trade only, will many times close the sale for the contractor, who is always price protected. In addition, Daystar is a large distributor of aluminum and PVC trim coil, GE silicone, and OSI caulk, all sold at severe discount. From lawn care to customer care, Dave and Willie Hauser, members of their families, and their employees have always tried to put their customers first. They operate under the belief that great customer service and a clean, honest and fair business relationship is of the first order. |
